A new notebook

I have kept paper notebooks for years. There is a shelf of them in the hallway, small black ones with an elastic band, and most are only half full because I start a new one before every trip and then forget the old one exists. One of them has my notes from my first roll of film, written in pencil. Looking at it now, I was mostly guessing.

This is an attempt at a notebook that does not get lost on a shelf. I am writing it in English so that friends abroad can read it, if they want to. I have not told them about it yet.

Some background. I have been shooting black-and-white film since 2021, on a second-hand Voigtländer Bessa R2 with a 35mm lens. So far everything has gone to a lab here in Helsinki. I leave the rolls on the counter and come back for the negatives some days later. I usually look through the scans on the tram home. I have never developed a roll myself, although I would like to try.

It will mostly be about film, I expect. Some of it will be about the light, because in spring it changes from one week to the next. There will not be photos, at least for now. I have not decided how I feel about pictures on a screen.

It is past nine and the sky is still not completely dark.
